about

When we were asked to play the Duluth Entertainment Convention Center's Symphony Hall as a "surprise show" during the Homegrown Festival this year (Tuesday, May 3, 11 p.m. Free admission, free parking), we were dead chuffed. It's great to think that people still give a toot about us after we've been parked for seven years. Then, we remembered, hey, we've got two soundboard recordings of us at Homegrown 2013 at Pizza Luce and another from the Sports Garden in 2014 -- let's put those out as a nice Homegrown treat.

We listened to them, and, well, they're not the greatest fucking shit ever, okay? There are flubs and bad singing and missed cues and wrong notes and bad jokes. If we were on a major label, MAYBE a couple of these tracks could come out as cassingle b-sides. The rest would need big-time studio wizardry/full-on cheating and overdubbing a la Kiss' "Alive" to sound the way we'd like it to.

On the other hand...ah, fuck it. Let's just call it an "official bootleg." It's 100% live and unvarnished Cars & Trucks. Sometimes Tony sings like poo and Mat forgets what part to play when and Matt O's bass amp falls down the stairs. (Er, sorry, that was at a different show, but you get the picture.) Overall, though, for some straight-up soundboard tapes without any ambient mics or anything, it all sounds okay.

Thanks to Jake Larson for taking these old files and blowing the dust off 'em last-minute so we could get them to you before we all fucking croak and none of this matters anymore to anyone.

Thanks to Bratwurst for protesting us in 2014 and giving us an album cover and title. (NOTE TO BRATWURST: Don't mess with us ever again, or you'll regret it.)

Thanks to you for giving a toss about Cars & Trucks then, now, or at some later date. We had a good run while we were doing it from 2005 to 2015 or so. Maybe there will be more fun to be had later on down the road?

Until then, check out this double-live official bootleg, from all of us to all of you. It's free, unless you'd like to make a donation, which is JUST FINE with us. Crank it up and crank the crank off!

Yrs,
Tony, Mat, Matt O

Guys who've done time bringing you the Dames, Farewell Tour, Seed Math, and Words to a Film Score. This is music to smile like the cheshire cat to. Think: the Beatles, the Monkees, the Who, the Kinks. Brendan Benson. Have visions of Cheap Trick or Guided by Voices. If you're into music that is more filled with hooks than Babe Winkelman's tackle box, this band is for you... ... more
